President's Message

Leslie Harris

Leslie HarrisGreetings ORWAC members,

Happy New Year! I hope that you will be able to join us at the 2019 Western States Communication Convention in Seattle, WA. ORWAC is sponsoring 8 paper and panel sessions this year. Of particular note is the ORWAC top paper panel on Saturday, February 23 at 4:15 and the ORWAC President’s Roundtable, Advocating With(out) Evidence: Sexual Assault in a Post Truth Era, on Saturday at 9:00. Thank you to everyone who reviewed papers, volunteered to respond or chair, and submitted their thoughtful feminist research to ORWAC!

Be sure to join us at our Business Meeting on Saturday, February 23rdat 5:45, and stay for the reception immediately following the meeting. This year we will elect a new ORWAC Membership Officer. Please see the call in this newsletter to learn more about this great way to serve ORWAC. We are also seeking nominees for Graduate Student Representative. Contact me (HarrisL@uwm.edu) if you are interested in nominating yourself for either position.

ORWAC Research Development Grants are due in April 2019, and you can find the application on our website (www.orwac.org). Grants are designed to assist feminist scholars completing research or creative projects that privilege and advance understandings about the intersectionality and complexity defining women’s lives, and the opportunity to apply for these grants are one of the benefits of ORWAC membership.

I look forward to seeing you in Seattle!

Leslie J. Harris
